The Full Story

Italianing is the intersection of over a decade of research and experience
on teaching methodologies, while working both in Academia and several acclaimed language institutes across three continents.
It has taken many conversations among many Italian women, about many syllabi, and books, and courses taught and suffered through. But more than anything, it has always been about our LOVE for Italy and the Italian language, and our desire to see it continuing to exist, as energetic and powerful and beautiful as it is, never to be left behind in a world that seems to care only about profit and material purposes.
Come join us, our classes and book clubs are made with simple ingredients: knowledge, passion and true dedication toward preservation.

Traveling

Method

At Italianing, we use the Circular Method, in place of the more common linear one.
In our online Italian classes, we
dismantle the linear proposal of verb tenses in a chronological line, and we do not simply rely on memorization.
We consistently reinsert and propose again core notions of the language that are often provided at the very beginning of other language courses, and seldom reviewed or expanded.

Together with the Communicative Method, the student will understand the WHY, use the WHAT, and revisit it all with a cadence.

Whether in an online class or online book club, our adventurers will constantly use all that they know, learn, read AND hear, cementing knowledge and not notions.

Why Us

Italian is, fundamentally, a philosophical language, filled with repetitive patterns, where even irregularities behave according to rules.
It might seem that anyone can teach it, but that is not the case.
Even professors of Italian in Italy often require courses on HOW to teach the language.
Having a background in philosophy and linguistics is a complete game-changer for a teacher.
Italian is both an Aristotelian language and a root + suffix structured one.
Keeping this nugget of knowledge in the back of one's mind, and tweaking the approach accordingly,  is paramount for the beginner student, and the building of their confidence that will surely get tested.
The beauty of the language, what it has to offer, its history, and how it is deeply connected to the English language, should be taught and shared,  to make Italian as friendly as it truly is, and easier to learn and retain!
And to keep the student excited and engaged by SPEAKING IT.
And that is the Italianing way.
